Mosaik Trustee 2024
This is a chance to join the board of a progressive and dynamic NGO at a crucial moment in its development.
Since 2018, Mosaik Education has been helping more refugees into tertiary education. This year we’ve set ourselves a new strategy, expanding our existing programming with young people to include more work with university partners as well as a new advocacy strand. We remain deeply committed to investing in refugee leadership in all our work, and in experimenting with technologies to increase its scale.
We’re now looking for up to four new trustees to join our board to help support this mission. In particular, we warmly encourage applications from people with lived experience of displacement.
About MosaikToday, just 7% of refugees access university, compared with a global average enrolment rate of 42% at this level. For young displaced people, being barred from reaching their full potential through higher study severely limits their adult life and contribution to society. This includes their place in their host community, but also their ability to help rebuild their home, if and when they return.
Mosaik’s mission is to close this gap. We do this by working directly with young refugees through access programmes designed and led by their peers, as well as by partnering with universities and others to build more opportunities for young displaced people to enrol.
As an organisation, we value community-led innovation, inclusivity, co-design with young people, and learning. We are passionate about improving access to higher education. We also think it’s important to tackle inequitable power dynamics in the aid and social impact sector.
Since 2018, we have reached thousands of refugees and displaced young people in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Egypt, Uganda and Ukraine. You can learn more about us here: Mosaik.ngo
About The RoleWhile a voluntary role, being a trustee is an active commitment. In return for your time, advice and expertise, we offer you the opportunity to get involved at an exciting moment for Mosaik and its work.
All trustees are expected to take part in quarterly board meetings, including one face to face gathering per year. We also place trustees into smaller groups to work more closely with the executive team on a range of topics. You can expect to be asked to take part in one or two of these, where you’ll provide more hands-on advice, and report back to the rest of the board from time to time.
Less frequently, you may be asked to take on a special, time bound project, depending on your skills, experience and availability, and the needs of the organisation. As a guide, you should plan to give around half a day of your time each month.
All Mosaik trustees serve a fixed three year term, with the option to renew for a second term.
About YouWe are looking for up to four new trustees to augment our board and help us deliver on our new strategy. We have identified a range of skills and experience that we wish to recruit for. A successful applicant will have one or more of the following:
